MyBlackCentral Launches Into Public Beta
Seem like not a day goes by without some new social network site launching. Welcome MyBlackCentral.com to the party.
MyBlackCentral is a social networking site for African-Americans and other people of color to connect, network, create profiles, listen to internet music and radio stations, chat, blog, share YouTube videos, etc.
Chuck Williams, CEO of Community Net Enterprises, MyBlackCentral parent company, believes that African-American social-networking site users are looking for alternatives to BlackPlanet and MySpace. MyBlackCentral said it plans to provide a real alternative to those sites with features such as:
- Customized Profiles
- Chat/IM-Blogs
- News
- Groups
- Video Chat
- Internet Radio
- YouTube Videos
- Event postings
Looks to me like the same features offered by all the other social networks.
MyBlackCentral claims the site has garnered over 130,000 page-views since January 2008, which is a very low page view count for a social network site.
The company said it plans to monitize by offering targeted advertising, sponsorships and jobs listings.
Community Net Enterprises will begin to seek partnerships and strategic alliances to make MyBlackCentral the number one online destination for African-Americans and other people of color.
I do wish Community Net Enterprises the best of luck with MyBlackCentral, but I think they need to find a better way to differentiate themselves in the social network space. Just offering a site that targets African Americans is no longer good enought. Now let me go create my profile.
