Rush Communications Inc. is one of the largest black owned media companies in the U.S. It was started in 1991 by Russell Simmons. Its core assets were Def Jam Records which was sold to Universal Music for $100 million in 1999 and Phat Farm sold to Kellwood for $140 million in 2004.
Rush Communications now consist of Rush Mobile, UniRush Financial Services, Rush Artist Management (a management company), Russell Simmons Beverage Company and Simmons Lathan Media Group, producer of Def Poetry and Def Comedy Jam.
